The emergence of the global biofuels, biopower and biobased product industries is creating growing demand for renewable feedstocks. Because of their reliability, scalability and consistency, dedicated crops, particularly Malibu sweet sorghum and Palo Alto biomass sorghum, will play a large and important role in meeting this demand.
NexSteppe is using a combination of directed conventional breeding, marker assisted breeding and cutting-edge analytical techniques to improve a selected set of economically attractive, high-yielding, broadly adapted, low-input, and non-food dedicated crops.
Our products are tailored to production of:
Designed with Purpose
A major benefit of dedicated crops is that, in contrast to wastes and residues, they can be tailored to meet the needs of the processes used in the production of biofuels, biopower an biobased products thereby optimizing their efficiency and economics.
NexSteppe’s product development program is based on an understanding of these needs as well as those at every step along the supply chain, from grower to biorefinery.
Malibu® Sweet Sorghum
Much like sugarcane, Malibu sweet sorghum is crushed to produce a sugary juice that can be fermented into ethanol as well as other fuel molecules and biobased products. As such, it is emerging as a complement to sugarcane for the ethanol industry in Brazil as well as a feedstock that can be used for biofuels and biobased products production in areas where sugarcane is poorly adapted.Learn more
Palo Alto® Biomass Sorghum
Palo Alto biomass sorghum is a broadly adapted, high-yielding crop with strong tolerance to heat and drought. Its range of maturities and ease of establishment make it well suited to providing just-in-time biomass for power production.Learn more
Metano Alto® Biogas Sorghum
NexSteppe has developed a dedicated product line, known as Metano Alto, to support the biogas industry. Metano Alto biogas sorghum hybrids have been bred for high biomass yields in the field, moisture levels suitable for ensiling at harvest, and high methane production efficiency under anaerobic digestion for production of biogas and biomethane.Learn more
Carbo Alto® Cellulosic Sorghum
Carbo Alto cellulosic sorghum is a product line optimized for conversion to cellulosic or 2G biofuels, exceeding the Environmental Protection Agency’s requirements for “adjusted lignocellulosic content” and featuring higher carbohydrate levels to increase conversion yields.Coming soon!
